Otto Hahn Medal

Since 1978 the MPS honors young scientists and researchers each year with the Otto Hahn Medal for outstanding scientific achievements. The award comes with a monetary sum of 7500 euros as recognition. The prize is intended to motivate especially gifted junior scientists and researchers to pursue a future university or research career.

2016 the fourth young researcher of MPI CEC in a row received the Otto Hahn Medal.

Innovation-Award of NRW

Prof. Dr. Robert Schlögl, MPI CEC Director, received the Innovation-Award of North Rhine-Westphalia in the category 'honorary award' for his contributions in the energy revolution on February 29th, 2016. 

The Innovation-Award is one of the most important prizes of the state NRW.

Gottfried Wilhelm Leibniz Prize

The Gottfried Wilhelm Leibniz Prize is the most important research award in Germany and aims to support outstanding researchers, so they can expand their research opportunities.

In 2010 Prof. Frank Neese, former director at the MPI CEC, was awarded the very distinguished prize.

Alwin Mittasch Prize

Since 2006 the Alwin Mittasch Prize is awarded on an international level by BASF for work in the field of catalysis, concerning either advances in basic research or successful application in industry. Previously the award was founded as the Alwin Mittasch Medal in 1990.

In 2015 Prof. Robert Schlögl, director at the MPI CEC, was awarded the renowned award for his comprehensive contributions on the characterization of heterogeneous catalysts.

SBIC Early Career Award

The Society of Biological Inorganic Chemistry (SBIC) annually awards a Early Career Award that is presented to a young scientist who has already accomplished distinguished research in biological inorganic chemistry.

Prof. Serena DeBeer, now director at the MPI CEC, as well as Prof. Frank Neese, former director at the MPI CEC, recieved this special award at an early stage of their careers.

Apprenticeship Award of the MPS

The Max Planck Society knows that training young scientists and technicians is very important and thus established two awards that on the one hand honors excellent apprentices and on the other hand acknowledges those institutes that implement innovate concepts on training apprentices. 

In 2015 the MPI CEC was awarded by the MPS for its outstanding and successful training concept for the second time.
