The Max Planck Institute for Chemical Energy Conversion commemorates its former director Prof. Dr. Dietrich Schulte-Frohlinde. On June 1, 1970, he was appointed Scientific Member of the Max Planck Institute for Coal Research and Director of an independent Department of Radiation Chemistry. In 1981 this department became independent as the Max Planck Institute for Radiation Chemistry, today the Max Planck Institute for Chemical Energy Conversion.
