How do we want to generate, store and utilise energy in the future - and as sustainably, efficiently and climate-friendly as possible? The exhibition on board the MS Wissenschaft 2025, the floating science centre of the Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF), addresses this question. From 14 May to 16 September 2025, the exhibition ship will be touring Germany and will also make several stops in North Rhine-Westphalia - including in the Ruhr region.
The MPI CEC is delighted to be involved in the exhibition with three of its own exhibits:
- an interactive exhibit on Fischer-Tropsch synthesis in collaboration with the neighbouring MPI for Coal Research: the model shows how synthetic fuels can be created from CO₂ and hydrogen - a process that was developed 100 years ago in Mülheim an der Ruhr and is more relevant than ever today.
- a demonstration model of the large-scale Carbon2Chem® project shows the conversion ofCO2 and green hydrogen into a chemical product (methanol or ethanol) and its subsequent further utilisation as fuel and chemical base materials.
- A third exhibit will be contributed by the TransHyDE project team.

About the MS Wissenschaft
The MS Wissenschaft is a converted inland cargo ship that presents an exhibition on a current research topic every year. The content is organised together with scientific institutions from all over Germany - from universities and non-university research institutions to museums. The MS Wissenschaft is part of the Science Year 2025, which has the motto ‘Future Energy’.
