Following the ad hoc statement of the Leopoldina on the corona crisis, the participating authors, Robert Schlögl (MPI CEC), Jürgen Renn and Christoph Rosol (MPI for the History of Science), published a guest article on climate and species protection in the German daily newspaper “Sueddeutsche Zeitung”.

"Corona once again sharpens the focus on fundamental threats such as climate change and species extinction, as well as the need to finally and decisively act on this issue," the article states.

The scientists appeal to take the current crisis as an opportunity to act with foresight and to foster economic, technical and social innovations.
