Prof. Serena DeBeer, respected chemist in the field of X-ray spectroscopy and Director at the Max Planck Institute for Chemical Energy Conversion (MPI CEC), has been selected as an Associate Editor by the Journal of the American Chemical Society (JACS). As Associate Editor, Serena DeBeer plays an important role in the selection and evaluation of submitted manuscripts for publication in the journal.
Serena DeBeer received her PhD from Standford University, where she worked as a beam line scientist and later as a research associate in the Stanford Synchrotron Radiation Lightsource (SSRL) department at Stanford University's SLAC National Accelerator Laboratory. In 2009, she moved to Cornell University in New York as an assistant professor before becoming a research group leader at the MPI for Bioorganic Chemistry (now MPI CEC) in 2011. Since 2017, Serena DeBeer has been Director at the MPI CEC and heads the Inorganic Spectroscopy Department. Her work focuses on the development and application of advanced X-ray spectroscopic methods to understand processes in chemical and biological catalysis.
Founded in 1879, JACS is the flagship journal of the American Chemical Society and is the world's leading journal for chemistry and related fields of science.
