"A whole range of technologies need to be developed and optimised on the way to the sustainable production and use of green hydrogen. Most of these technologies have one thing in common: they require the right catalysts."
A new research platform in Berlin is to advance the development of novel catalyst materials and build a bridge from fundamental research to industrial application. At the newly founded CatLab, novel and customised catalysts are to be developed.
The focus is on the production of green hydrogen, which is urgently needed for the energy transition and plays a key role in achieving the climate targets.
Together with the Helmholtz-Zentrum Berlin (HZB) and the Fritz Haber Institute (FHI), the MPI CEC has succeeded in creating CatLab, a centre of excellence that brings together various research institutions, universities and industrial partners. In cooperation with the Humboldt University of Berlin and with funding from the Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF), CatLab is set to revolutionise research into catalysts.
The ceremonial launch of the Catalysis Centre CatLab will take place on 21 June from 11 am - 1 pm and will be broadcast live online. Guests include Dr. Stefan Kaufmann (Member of the German Bundestag, Innovation Commissioner Green Hydrogen, BMBF), Prof. Dr. Otmar Wiestler (President of the Helmholtz Association) and Prof. Dr. Martin Stratmann (President of the Max Planck Society).
Further information is available on the CatLab website.
